James Lin DMD

My teeth are discolored. What should I do?

Tooth discoloration may have several causes which will impact how Dr. Lin will recommend you address it. First, some stains are confined to the surface of your tooth enamel, usually a result of the foods and drinks you consume. Some color problems with your teeth live below the surface because they are caused by genetic factors, medications, or the presence of metallic fillings, which become more visible through thinning enamel over time.

Professional Teeth Whitening Is a Good, Non-Invasive Start

Dr. Lin may suggest our teeth whitening system for surface staining once one of his hygienists has performed a thorough clean and polishing. Your tooth surface is in its best condition to accept the whitening compounds in an even layer.

Our at-home system consists of custom trays and a professional-strength whitening gel which you apply at your convenience.

Porcelain Restorations Like Veneers and Crowns Cover Stains

In some cases, tooth discoloration may prove resistant to whitening, especially for those deeper causes. In that case, Dr. Lin will recommend other ways of improving your smile using our cosmetic dentistry procedures. These include dental bonding, porcelain veneers, or porcelain crowns.

We encourage you to reach out to our dental office to discover the many ways we can bring the sparkle back to your smile.
