Dental crowns are common restorations designed to cover and protect a damaged, decayed, or weakened tooth. At James Lin, DMD, we use advanced technology, such as intraoral cameras, to customize your dental crown and restore your smile.

Not only that, but we offer a dental savings plan for patients without insurance! With one annual fee, you’ll get preventive cleanings and care, as well as a discount for dental crowns and other treatments.

So, what does the dental crown procedure entail?

What to Expect: The Dental Crown Procedure

When you visit our dental office for a dental crown, here are the steps we’ll follow:

  1. Consultation and evaluation — We’ll perform a thorough examination and take x-rays. Once we determine a dental crown is the best option, we’ll form a treatment plan. Before we take the next step, we’ll put your mind at ease and answer any questions.
  2. Tooth preparation — To make room for your new crown, we’ll reshape your tooth, and if you have a cavity, we’ll remove any decay and place a dental filling.
  3. Impressions and temporary crown — Using our intraoral camera, we’ll capture digital impressions and send them to the dental lab. They’ll use these images to create your custom crown. To protect your tooth, we’ll place a temporary crown until your permanent crown is ready.
  4. Crown fabrication — The dental lab will customize your crown to match your other teeth. It will be the same size, shape, and color; this usually takes about two weeks.
  5. Crown placement — You’ll come back to our office once your crown is ready. We’ll remove your temporary crown and bond your permanent crown to your tooth.

Aftercare Tips for Your New Crown

A dental crown is easy to care for, but to help it last as long as possible and look its best, here are some important tips:

  • For the first 24 hours after we cement your crown in place, don’t eat hard or sticky foods.
  • Be sure to brush your teeth twice a day and floss at least once a day.
  • If you’re feeling any discomfort when you bite down, be sure to call us right away!
